MC Conrad

Few people can lay claim to being the definitive voice of their profession, but MC Conrad is one of those few.

His groundbreaking DJ/MC partnership with LTJ Bukem, which started in late 1991, has helped him forge an international reputation as the leading voice of the British drum’n’bass movement – a position he shows no sign of relinquishing.

Over the years, his definitive, sonorous and supple vocal style has added the final flourish to some of the scene’s best-loved anthems. The Western, Planetary Funk Alert, Golden Girl, Soul Patrol.

His raps bring together thoughts and feelings culled from all aspects of life, personally organised to complement the music and connect with the people who are listening.

The British MC developed an ear for music at an early age, listening to his family’s record collection before being turned on by the early 1980s electro scene. From there it was only natural he would immerse himself in the exciting emerging hip hop scene that was flourishing in tandem.

Picking up a microphone, Conrad began to rap for a local hip hop band and started to develop his individual style.

By the early 1990s, he had begun to investigate the country’s burgeoning rave scene, and it was at private rave on a farm in the Home Counties that he hooked up with an ambitious DJ known as LTJ Bukem. Theirs was a meeting of minds – with Bukem’s futuristic music vision already picking up pace, Conrad’s conscious lyric style was to be the perfect addition to charge forward and captivate a growing global audience.

From Dreamscape, Quest, Perception, Fantazia and Universe through to Speed, Logical Progression, Progression Sessions and Bukem in Sessions, their partnership has helped to define the British drum’n’bass sound and together they have spread the word around the globe.

Although a majority of Conrad’s focus has been working along side LTJ Bukem however, it’s not been unknown throughout the years of rave music for him to join forces with the likes of Carl Cox, Jumping Jack Frost, Fabio, Grooverider, Ellis Dee, Bryan Gee, Goldie, Total Science, EZ Rollers, Doc Scott, Roni Size, Krust, DJ Die, SS, Zero Tolerance, Alix Perez, Artificial intelligence, Furney, Paul SG, all part of the long list of Dj’s for whom which Conrad has graced the the microphone and who regard him as the vocal seal of approval, giving the DJ’s performance the finishing touch and working to complement the music without being overpowering or excessive which is a skill itself in a musical world of MC’s scrabbling to take claim of the limelight.
